Countries that have the ability to deploy nuclear weapons, weapons that derive their power from nuclear reactions, are said to have nuclear weaponry. The attempts to create the first nuclear weapon began during World War II under the Manhattan Project, created by the Allies in fear that Nazi Germany may soon posses nuclear weapons too.
Only once have nuclear weapons ever been used in warfare; by the United States on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of the War. Since the truly devastating effects of the weaponry on a civilian population were discovered, there have been campaigns to cease production of and destroy existing nuclear weaponry. With several states across the globe
capable of launching increasingly powerful nuclear weapons within a moment's notice, the fears of a world ruined by Nuclear Warfare are very real.

"Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants.. without wisdom or prudence, our servant may prove to be our executioner."
- Omar Bradley
